[SLEEVE
NOTES from MY TAKE on the album]
""ELECTRA's
first band (come on... 'first BAND'
mistakes allowed) was
English Prog Rock band TWELFTH NIGHT. She
had arrived in London after 3 years Performing Arts study in New York,
the city of her birth... and Twelfth Night introduced her to
their lifestyle: rehearsing, recording and gigging [NO
DRUGS... CHEESE SANDWICHES... TO BED EARLY WITH SCRIPTURE]: the staples of a (MAYBE CHRISTIAN or 'DISNEY')
rock-band-on-the-road. They were exciting days -
(WELL, ACTUALLY.. ALL the DAYS SPENT in
LONDON.. in THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA on PORTOBELLO ROAD with LEMMY and TUDOR - WHO DOESN'T REMEMBER
'TUDOR'!!???.. YES.. THOSE WERE EXCITING DAY..
},
punctuated by now legendary toxic binges down the Princess Alexandra on Portobello Road with
Lemmy from
Motorhead, and as the song says: "nothing lasts forever". Electra
and Twelfth Night went their separate ways. In their time
together they produced an album, a single and whacked through a couple
months of tour dates.
After restlessly chewing through 3 or 4 less technically skilled bands and a year living in Amsterdam (WHICH WAS
KINDA INTERESTING ACTUALLY) she returned to London to a career as a
session singer. [that WAS
genuinely hard graft}
Electra worked professionally with many songwriters and
producers, including Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, and Rick Fenn
(10CC); but most often with the very gifted songwriter/producer Craig
Pruess (at the time he was scoring films and writing/producing
for Sir Cliff Richard, amongst others (SCARY
I KNOW)- Later he scored for 'Bend
It Like Beckham'). After a few years on the session
scene, Electra sought a DEPARTURE
from the NORMATIVE MONEY-MAKING BEHAVIOR
and THUS wandered
DOWN a dark lane to Leicester,
which led to the formation of hard-rock band DEAD
EASY with guitarist Ian Jones (who co-wrote the
early NWOBHM BLITZKRIEG
HIT WHICH METALLICA LATER COVERED!!!!! I.E. the METALLICA-single 'BLITZKRIEG'),
which association quickly secured DEAD
EASY
major management and a publishing/licensing deal. [OK
THAT WORKS] This was Electra's dream project
(IT WAS) and when it stumbled and fell
[WAS MURDERED
BY the otherwise sweet-faced PA*L LO*SBY!!!!
- I always said his name spells 'Lose By' - unless you're Jules Holland}
and finally failed {yes it did}, due to financial (i.e.
'budgeting') issues
(and maybe we were
having a little too much FUCKING fun! or more truthfully... the business
was FUCKING WITH US
TOO MUCH...LITERALLY! or at least me.. the 'me' was definitely getting
fucked with.. but I've learned this is what happens when you're
good-looking), she - ELECTRA - unless
you've forgotten who this is about - wandered listlessly through the
realms of 'new' music; London's dancy/trance scene, an R&B project
titled 'EVA LUNA' with Scottish producer Dave Galbraith
and then out of music's wastelands altogether. [WHAT
A WASTE - AND EVERYBODY'S SO POLITE MOST OF THE TIME]
]
Five years of roaming the
globe [LOOKING FOR THE HOLY GRAIL OF LIFE..
THE SECRET.. THE RAISON D'ETRE.. [LATER SHE DISCOVERED IT IN THE SAN
FRANCISCO BAY AREA OF THAT GILDED, GOLDEN, CALIFORNIA STATE - like LAST
MONTH!!! Aug 2008 - MORE ACID and AIR GUITAR pleez... life is 'AIR']
brought her full-circle, back to the United Kingdom and life as a
songwriter and musician. [WITH IT'S FULL
COMPLIMENT OF MISERABLE RAINY DARK WET WINTERS.. FUCK THAT REALLY.. ONLY
PEOPLE WHO HAVE
TO, ACTUALLY LIVE HERE
(in the UK!!!)!!!
like TROLLS UNDER THE BRIDGE.. in the COLD AND DAMP AND DARK.. Now come
on.. you know it's TRUE!!!]
In 2003, Electra was a Finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition with 'Crawl'
(NOT PROPERLY
APPRECIATED) and as a result, was invited to perform at the New York Int'l Music
Festival in Madison Square Garden April 03, Las Vegas
July 03, and Los Angeles Sept 03, where she won the Festival's 'Best
Female Rock Vocalist' Award. She claimed her award and performed
again at Madison Square Garden, NYC in November 2003. [OK..
THAT WAS A NONSENSE.. BUT I LIKED IT.]
Electra has written an album of songs for her country-rock project DIAMOND
KITTY and is currently developing a new electronic solo
project, DEEP
SIX [KIND
OF ON HOLD SINCE MY SISTER DIED AND 'DEEP
SIXED' IT - sank it right into
the briny deep.. of the SUBCONSCIOUS.. and the rest of the ether -
that's where it will lie.. until someone else loves it so much]
and can be found on stage exercising her substantial and UNDEREXERCISED
vocal skills with serendipitous electronic Scottish sonic savants ALTRES;
settling into the discovery of her voice as an instrument; used to
explore and defy conventions. She lives most-times in Edinburgh,
sometimes in San Francisco and will hopefully do so, happily ever
after... [IT SOUNDS
TWEE AND SWEET, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY TRUE. ALL YOU CYNICS OUT THERE..
TAKE HEED.. THERE IS A HAPPINESS.. BUT IT's GENERALLY FOUND IN THE
'GOLDEN STATE' of CALIFORNIA!!]
[[Personal Notes -. The music publishing company MGCK Music
was originally created to protect publishing rights to my own songs
(previously owned by an 'other' publishing company). I fought long and
hard (14 years!!! - OR A LIFETIME..)
[SAME THING IN THE
MUSIC BUSINESS) to get the rights to my own compositions reassigned
to me. MGCK Productions and MGCK Music are
my project companies, in San Francisco, CA and Edinburgh, Scotland. [YES..
THANK GOD FOR THE 'GOLDEN STATE' of
CALIFORNIA.]]
